CLEVELAND — Today, LeBron James’ father, Lamar James, announced that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer.
The diagnosis was confirmed by Dr. James at an event hosted by ESPN this afternoon.
According to a statement released by Lamar James’ family, Lamar had undergone treatment for Stage 4 lymphoma for six months and was undergoing chemo.
Lamar James said that his father has been a member of his family for more than 35 years, and that they had a special bond.
“It is with heavy hearts that I announce that my father Lamar has been officially diagnosed with a Stage 4 Lymphoma,” Lamar James said.
I want my son to know that he and I will continue to be supportive, and we are hopeful that we will be able to be in contact soon. “
It has been an absolute privilege to spend time with my father during his treatment.
I want my son to know that he and I will continue to be supportive, and we are hopeful that we will be able to be in contact soon.
He has been blessed with great health and will be well in the coming weeks and months.
My prayers are with my family during this time.”
Lamar said that the doctors told him he will live until “he’s 90,” and that he expects to live out his final years in the United States.
On Thursday, LeBron posted on Instagram that he is feeling better, and said that he had “a couple of good days.”
“This morning, I had a good feeling, which is why I am posting my thoughts on today,” he said.
It is unclear how long he has to live, but it is expected that he will be around to see his son’s death.
James’ father also posted a picture on Instagram of himself at his home in Los Angeles.
The NBA’s reigning MVP said he had no intention of retiring at the end of the season.
“I will always be a part of my family, and the rest is history,” Lamar said in a statement.
Thank you for your prayers, support and love during this incredibly difficult time.””
I look forward to spending time with his family, working on my business, and playing my basketball again.
Thank you for your prayers, support and love during this incredibly difficult time.”
In the aftermath of James’ death, LeBron, who had previously said he was in good health, told reporters that he feels better, but “the reality is, the cancer is very serious.”
“I know that I have a long way to go, but I have the support of all my family and friends, including my wife,” he added.
“Hopefully, we’ll be back in the next couple of weeks.”
Ladarius James told reporters at the time that his son was “a champion and a great guy,” and said he would continue to do everything in his power to get him back on the court.
Since Lamar James was diagnosed with cancer, LeBron has spoken out publicly against his father, who said in January that he was not aware of his son having a terminal illness.
James had previously called out his father’s comments in a series of Instagram posts, saying they were disrespectful and hurtful.
Last week, he posted a video on Instagram where he talked about how he was proud of his father and thanked him for being “a great dad.”
“He is a very tough guy, and he’s never let me down,” James said at the event.
“It’s just been hard for me, and for my family.
He’s never stopped being a champion.
I love him.”
In January, Lamar called out LeBron and said the two had talked in the past, but he was unaware of his daughter’s diagnosis.
“It’s hard to watch him [Lamar] go through this, and not even know,” Lamar told reporters.
“He’s a fighter.
I’ve been around fighters.
He has a very good attitude, a great sense of humor.
He is a great dad.
He loves his family.
We’ve all been through tough times.
It’s not easy, but you do what you have to do.
He knows that he’s a champion.”
