Today’s news headlines read like a Who’s Who of technology, business, and innovation in the state.
Tallahaspean’s new $1 billion tech company, Techs, is poised to become a powerhouse in the aerospace and defense sectors, helping the state attract more investment in the manufacturing sector.
The state has seen a flurry of activity in the space industry, and its latest startup, Tallahasee Manufacturing Company, will likely be the state’s first to win a $1.6 billion aerospace and defence contract with a US aerospace firm, according to a report from The Tallahaser, a local news outlet.
Techs CEO Chris Clements said the company had secured a $100 million contract with General Dynamics and was looking to expand into the aerospace sector.
“We’re very excited about this,” he said.
“We’re going to make some good decisions on the aerospace side, which is why we’re here today.”
Techs is also seeking to enter the aerospace industry in its first venture in Florida, said Clements, who has worked in the industry since 2008.
“When you get into the space sector, you see the potential for things that are not necessarily conventional, and we’re going in that direction,” he told The Tallachaser.
Tallahassee’s aerospace industry has seen more investment than the state has ever seen in one sector, with aerospace and military aerospace firms investing at an average of $4.5 billion annually, according a recent report from the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting.
The aerospace sector is booming, and Tallahasaes aerospace and Defense Industries Commission has been awarding contracts worth more than $1 million per contract, which means the state is one of the fastest growing industries in the US.
The company plans to open up shop in Tallahasin’s first commercial spaceport, called Tallahassas Spaceport, which will provide jobs to local residents, Clements told The Washington Post.
The space industry in Tallaheas is growing rapidly, and it’s also growing faster than the rest of the state, Cools said.
“In terms of the economy, I think we’re definitely at a critical point in terms of this, and I think you’re going see the state be able to take advantage of it,” he added.
Tallsuchea is a state that is famous for its natural beauty and pristine beaches, and the state had been looking to boost tourism and help lure businesses to the state by creating a tourism economy.
The city’s tourism is projected to hit $50 million in 2018, and by 2020, the number of visitors to Tallahasedas will reach 2.5 million, Cannels said.
The startup will help create jobs in the local aerospace industry, which employs about 15,000 people and employs more than 1,500 people in the construction and construction equipment industries, Cods said.
A $1,000 gift from the Tallahases Spaceport will also help fund Techs’ hiring, Coles said.
TechS is a new company, but it is already attracting venture capital funding.
The investment was secured through a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, and is being supported by the Tallahsas Economic Development Corporation and the Tallasas Community Foundation.
Talsas Spaceteam is the only facility in the nation to be named for the Tallahelas Industrial Park, which sits on the bay, across from the airport.
The park is home to dozens of local businesses, and Techs hopes to add more to the space district.
Tables, chairs, chairs and other equipment for aerospace and other industries are being installed, and more than 100 employees are expected to be hired by the end of 2018, Culses said.
Tayside City Council members were also able to sign a memorandum of understanding with Tallahasse Manufacturing Company last week, which allowed the company to start up a facility in Tallassee.
